To our dearest Earth's General Store community,

It has been a roller coaster since we announced the closure of EGS. We have felt your love. We extend a giant thank you to everyone who reached out, who stepped up, and who offered to donate to EGS. Your support has meant the world.

On Sunday, September 22, the team felt we had enough pledged funds to pivot to a saving approach, with hopes of reaching our fundraising goal. Despite the generosity of our community, which has added to our fundraising total via our crowdfunding campaign, by the end of this week our team did not feel we could get appropriate funds in place in the timeline that was needed to save the store. With people's livelihoods on the line, and our responsibility to the community hanging in the balance, we have chosen the difficult but necessary decision not to move forward.

Please know that at every step of the way we have been cautious, mindful, and measured. Our volunteer board has been working tirelessly for long hours to make decisions in real time with the best available information. The protection of our staff, our community, and the values of EGS have been at the forefront of every decision.

To be clear, effective Saturday, September 28, Earth's General Store is closed. Please know that we have not accepted any funding since announcing our closure last week. We are in the process of closing the Go Fund Me and refunds will be issued to all donors.

We are heartbroken that this is the end of the store - but it is not the end of our story. The spirit of EGS will live on, and together, we can carry forward the mission of community, justice, and sustainability. We encourage you to continue championing local food and community spaces like EGS and we hope to explore those opportunities with you in the future.

Support from the community proves how special this store is and that it will never be forgotten. We are so proud of our legacy - a generation of Edmontonians that are forever changed. We love you!
