Over the years Earth's General Store, Michael Kalmanovitch, and many of the staff members have been in the media hundreds of times.  Why? Because we are knowledgeable, we are passionate, we are a curiosity, we have opinions, we are controversial, we give good honest information, and we are recognized as a good local resource.

April 20th, 2013 - Edmonton Journal article about the Edmonton Earth Day 2013 event that happened in our parking lot. CTV and Global TV also did interviews but whether they made it on to the programs I am unsure of.

April 19th, 2013 - Interviewed on CBC -TV regarding the Laundry National Hang Out Day - encouraging people to line dry their clothes. I set up a clothese line in the parking lot and put a sign on it. It was fairly cool and even snowed for a while. 

February 7th, 2013 - Shaw TV talking about BPA (bisphenol-A) in canned tomatoes (and I will point out alternatives and that this is probably more of a concern for people that drink soda pop out of cans).

February 5th, 2013 - Alberta Prime Time interview about food waste - Think, Eat, Save. Though we never got to the point about saving money by buy less stuff.

December 15, 2012 - "Going Green at Christmas" in St Albert Gazette. 

December 1, 2012 - "Organic food seems simple, but it's not" in the Edmonton Sun.  I did not like the way this article went. I actually wrote a response to it on the blog.   

March 2011 - in partnership with Shaw Community Programming Michael Kalmanovitch is hosting a series of vignettes of green living tips. These will start to be aired in Edmonton area in March 2011 and will be rotated through the month as filler. They are only 30 -60 seconds long. I am told that they will supply me with a copy of the shows and I will post them to the site. The series is called "Be the Change"!

January 27th, 2011 - Publishing of an Excessive Idling Letter in the Edmonton Journal. Shortly afterwards I installed signs around the parking lot to advise people that the parking lot is an Idling Free Zone.

May 23rd, 2011 - Mid May I noticed that there were some people on the boulevard on the avenue in front of my store spray painting the treess. I went and chatted with them and they told me that they were markign the trees for removal - about 90 trees in only 3 blocks. I then got motivated and contacted city hall. Media picked up on it and 630CHed did a story.

January 5th, 2011 - Green Acts initiative - get a reward for green acts like bringing your own shopping bag, refilling a container or green commuting. Your reward is then paid forward to non-profit groups and then we will add all the tokens together and send them the money that customers contributed to the. Global TV covered this initiative.

May 6th, 2010 - Pesticide Free Edmonton held a media conference at the store. Four television stations and 630 Ched radio showed up to hear a variety of people talking about why Edmonton needs a pesticide bylaw. Earth's General Store was chosen as the place to this because of what we do and my involvement in this issue.

Lots of Media attention on January 10th/11th, 2010 that covered our human powered move of our back room inventory to our new location. Several members of the Edmonton Bicycle Commuters', customers, staff friends and even strangers came out to haul boxes down the avenue on bicycles, bicycles and trailers, wagons, back packs, rolling luggage, etc. They walked, rode the bus, and bicycled the 13 blocks to our new store space (9605 - 82nd Avenue). June 18th, 2008 - CBC Radio Edmonton: "Green Funeral/Burial". Michael did an interview with Adrienne Lamb about positive ways to deal with your funeral arrangements - some ideas that people might want to consider regarding their death and burial.

June 16th, 2008 - Several people and groups were invited by CBC radio to be part of a centre stage event over the lunch hour at the downtown studios. April 28th, 2008 - Edmonton Journal http://tinyurl.com/4t4wv4 - "Clothesline bans hang eco-conscious out to dry" by Susan Ruttan. Michael hangs his laundry outside - a simple act but one that is not so common any longer.

Back in 2004 Alberta Views did an article about Edmonton activists and Earth's General Store creator, owner and operator Michael Kalmanovitch was one of five activists featured.
