NavigationWe order the worms on Thursday and they are delivered to the store on Friday. People that are interested in getting worms need to place an order before Wednesday so that they can ensure that worms are reserved for them. People should pick their worms up at the store over the next few days (Friday, Saturday or Sunday). The worms are sold in 1/2 pound lots (this is 1/2 pound of worms in a small bag of soil) and are sold for $45.00. A kit consists of a 53L Rubbermaid Roughtote with holes drilled out of the lid (for ventilation), 1/2 pound bag of worms, 50 litres of soil, a trowel and a marker. The kit is sold for $75.00. We offer the bins and soil separately so you can purchase components as you need them. Please contact us at 780-439-8725 to order the worms and/or worm composting kit. |
Labeling of GMO Contaminated Foods! Let the Food Movement Start Right Now and with ME and YOU!One of the reasons why I support Certified Organic foods is that it is one of the last bastions protecting us and the environment from the pollution caused by the conventional food industry (Multi AgriBusiness/Conglomerates) and doesn't allow GMO seeds (or ingredients) to be used in the production of organic items. Michael Pollan has written a very good article about the proposition that is coming up in the next Californian election (November 6th) and I wanted to share it with you all. Click here to read his article in the New York Times. If you know anyone in California please ask the to support the labeling of foods that contain GMO ingredients. We need better food, better stewardship of the land and animals, we need more locally produced products (grown organically – certified of course), and we need people to vote and take action. If we just purchase our food from the farmer’s markets or organic food stores in Edmonton then we are doing a disservice to those that cannot – either financially or those that have not figured out how the present system is not good for us or the planet… yet – and we need to go beyond just taking care of our own personal consumption. We must change the system so that everyone has access to cleaner and healthier foods that respect the land, the animals, and our fellow earthlings. Vote with your purchases but also let companies know you won’t purchase foods that are suspected to contain GMO ingredients. You can get more information about what companies have GMO ingredients at True Food Now, Greenpeace BC Canada (we used to have this slightly dated information pamphlets at the store but it is still good information), and GMO Awareness. There are some lists of the companies that have opposed the Proposition 37 in California at Health Freedom USA so please consider not supporting them and if possible let them know that you are choosing not to support them. CBAN (Canadian Biotechnology Action Network) has some good resources about issues facing Canadians. Also Check out the Non-GMO Project for verified items that don’t contain GMO ingredients.
