March 5th, 2010We have added several bulk food items - flours, grains, beans, popcorn, and even chocolate chips. We have expanded our gluten free/wheat free product line. Systems are getting set up, less items are missing from the Point of Sale computer system, staff are getting used to things at the new space, we are organising much of the 'stuff' from the old space and people are coming in and buying things. Of course we could be a lot busier & I am trying to trust that this will come soon enough. I am taking advantage of the warm weather to get rid of some of the snow from the parking lot. I would like to have the whole parking lot ice and snow free within the next week - it just makes it cleaner looking and people don't track so much into the store. The children's play area is very well received by children and their parents. Children love having a special place for them - most of them are not that interested in going around the store with their parents so it is a win-win situation. We will be getting in our seeds this coming week. I have placed an order for Stellar Seeds (we have carried these for about 5-6 years now). I will shortly make an order for Urban Harvest for some seeds since they offer some items that Stellar Seeds doesn't (we had these seeds last year). I am having problems finding wholesale suppliers of raw food products. I have ordered some neat crackers from Toronto from Two Girls Cooking. I tasted these last year when I was there and thought they were great. I have made an enquiry for a vegan cheese called Daiya. I am told by a friend from Toronto that this is a fantastic vegan product and really melts like cheese. It is making from tapioca and arrowroot powder. For some reason the supplier that I have chosen to supply our refrigeration units is not returning my emails or phone calls. Perhaps I should look for another person to work with for this equipment. We ran out of our own roasted coffee because the problems we have faced with the installation of the coffee roaster. So to tide us over I ordered in some coffee from Bean North a roaster from Whitehorse. I hope people enjoy it.
